  • The Mott Haven Fridge Network blog team is a great place for self-motivated writers and creatives. Search Engine Optimization is crucial for keeping our name visible, and this is achieved through relevant, engaging, and consistent blog posts. Our blog is a reflection of how much we value our volunteers and community members, it shows that we care about the issues people are facing, and creates the opportunity for a dialogue about these issues.

    Responsibilities:

    • Create at least one blog post per week.

    • Interview and photograph people associated with the organization, transcribe the interviews and turn them into blog posts.

    • Research social justice issues and people who fight for social justice and write blog posts about them.

    • Format and publish blog posts on Wix.

    • Understand and utilize SEO.

    • Maintain a robust content calendar.

  • Our growing network of community refrigerators are beautiful symbols of community empowerment. The Community Fridge Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining the physical beauty of our multiple sites located throughout East Harlem and the Bronx.

    Responsibilities:

    • Use public transportation (bus & subway) to access each community refrigerator location

    • Regularly clean the interior of community refrigerators with provided cleaning supplies

    • Sweep and remove trash and boxes from the surrounding area of community refrigerator sites

    • Check and maintain the temperature of community refrigerators

    • Answer questions of community members about the role and purpose of community refrigerators

    • Add signage as needed to each community refrigerator location

    • Flyer the surrounding area as needed to promote site-specific events

  • A good fit for the Facebook/Instagram team is someone who is creative, self-motivated, bold, and organized. Social media is one of the easiest ways to find new supporters and keep our current supporters regularly engaged. A strong social media presence is crucial to brand visibility, and it allows us to spotlight our volunteers and the tremendous work they do. Our social media accounts are featured in all of our marketing emails, so it is vital that our accounts are always active.

    Responsibilities:

    • Create original, engaging posts and stories on a daily basis.

    • Interact with followers.

    • Collaborate with other teams to share new content.

    • Maintain a monthly content calendar.

  • The Fundraising/Philanthropy team will be a good place for you if you are self-motivated, have excellent research and writing skills, and are comfortable with constructive criticism. As a volunteer-run organization, grants, fundraising, and donations are critical to upholding our mission. Researching and applying for grants is essential to ensuring we have the resources to continue our fight against food insecurity.

    Responsibilities:

    • Research grants and potential Grantmakers.

    • Write grant applications and Letters of Inquiry in partnership with executive leadership.

    • Use databases like GrantStation and Foundation Directory to search for relevant foundations.

  • A good fit for the Graphic Design team will be someone who is highly skilled in graphic design, self-motivated, and has experience working with branded design. As a graphic design intern, your work will be showcased in almost everything Mott Haven Fridge Network produces, so it is imperative that your work looks fantastic. Maintaining a mature and professional appearance in all design work helps to reflect a mature and professional organization.

    Responsibilities:

    You will design:

    • Marketing emails

    • One-pagers and other print deliverables

    • Brochures

    • Branded merchandise

    • Website banners

    • Social media posts

  • An ideal intern for the LinkedIn/Twitter team will be a person who is creative, self-motivated, bold, and organized. Social media is one of the easiest ways to find new supporters and keep our current supporters regularly engaged. A strong social media presence is crucial to brand visibility, and it allows us to spotlight our volunteers and the tremendous work they do. Our social media accounts are featured in all of our marketing emails, so it is vital that our accounts are always active.

    Responsibilities:

    • Interact with followers and other Twitter accounts.

    • Plan and maintain a content calendar.

  • The Tech Intern role is focused on working with low-code (LC) and no-code (NC) platforms and tools to optimize and improve all steps of the volunteering process, from volunteer outreach to data management and system maintenance. The main no-code automation tool is Make (Integromat), which leverages logical thinking to create cross-platform integrations with platforms such as Airtable, HubSpot, Twilio, Frontapp, and Jotform. No prior knowledge of LC/NC tools is required. Knowledge of JavaScript for Airtable automation is beneficial but not required. The internship is intern-centered as the intern suggestions on new features and systems are always welcome.

  • The outreach team is the team for you if you are hard-working, possess very strong communication skills, have an outgoing personality, and are a fearless self-starter. Mott Haven Fridge Network uses outreach to form meaningful, lasting partnerships with people and organizations within our community. Neighbors helping neighbors is a pillar of our organization, and to ensure this stays strong, we need confident, dedicated individuals to join our outreach team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Contact companies, schools, churches, alumni networks, and more to form partnerships.

    • Help maintain partnerships through consistent contact.

    • Brainstorm and execute creative approaches employing many forms of communication.

    • Create one-pagers and other outreach materials for distribution.

  • The ideal intern for the Photo/Video team will be skilled in shooting photos and videos, organized, and creative. The photos and videos captured during our volunteer events are featured on our social media, in marketing emails, and in blog posts. They allow us to spotlight our volunteers and community members, as well as inspire potential volunteers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Attend volunteer events and take photos and videos.

    • Organize and catalog photos and videos.

  • You will be a great fit for the Press/Public Relations team if you are self-motivated, a very strong writer, and have prior experience or a strong interest in communicating with the press. Maintaining visibility in the press is vital to attracting new donors and volunteers, as well as forming new partnerships. That is why we need a dedicated intern who is comfortable and confident in contacting and communicating with the press.

    Responsibilities:

    • Use a CRM system to maintain contact with the press.

    • Use a CRM system to build lists of new and relevant press contacts.

    • Find ways to gain exposure for the organization.

    • Establish connections with various sources.

    • Create and distribute press releases.

  • A good fit for the podcast team will be a person who is a self-starter and skilled in all aspects of creating a podcast. Our Bronx Heroes podcast highlights some of the amazing Bronx residents that help fight for the betterment of their community. As a Bronx-based organization, we strive to show our appreciation for our neighbors and our neighborhood, and our podcast gives us the platform to do so.

    Responsibilities:

    • Write intros for our Bronx Heroes podcast.

    • Conduct outreach for potential guests.

    • Manage all podcast-related tasks on social media and our website.

  • You will be a great fit for the Video Editing team if you are self-motivated, skilled in editing photos and videos, and a team player. The photos and videos captured during our volunteer events are featured on our social media, in marketing emails, and in blog posts, so it is important that they look perfect. They allow us to spotlight our volunteers and community members, as well as inspire potential volunteers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Edit photos and videos.

    • Work with the social media team to find the best content for posts.

  • Our work of neighbors helping neighbors is only possible with a large, robust, and growing network of volunteer drivers. While many of our volunteer drivers come from referrals, we also need to continue publicly promote our work in highly visible locations throughout NYC and Westchester County.

    Responsibilities:

    • Get permission of local businesses and other institutions to post flyers and put out postcards about our work

    • Apply for and subsequently host information booths about volunteering at various events such as farmers markets, art fairs, and more.

    • Hand out flyers and other promotional items about our work in (relevant) high foot traffic locations such as camp pick-up/drop-off, sports fields, etc.

    • Place postcards on vehicles in relevant high traffic locations

    • Brainstorm and execute other creative ideas to get the word out to potential volunteer drivers
